Can a film play a successful role to increase the worth of VR in public sector? Yes to Ready Player One, a movie with the idea of virtual reality by Steven Spielberg’s. HTC China’s president spoke about the positive concern of VR purchase by people in coming year at iQiyi Technology and Entertainment World event.
April 2018’s survey on 4288 people have shown successful results related to purchase of VR. After watching the movie, about 60.3% of population wanted to buy or upgrade VR headsets over next year. 37.2% of them haven’t watched Ready Player One which produces an increase of 23%. The unarguably strong VR content of the film has attracted the masses in the market of VR. Those who are unaccustomed to VR technology have now got a positive impact because of movie’s pro-VR theme. $220 million has been spent by Chinese people to watch Ready Player One, which is more than $135 million grossed in United States by the movie.
Interest in VR is pushing Chinese devs to go for new generation VR headsets and its accessories. China recently introduced the Pimax 8K VR headset and iQiyi has given the reach of 4K headset for domestic use.
According to Graylin, HTC China’s president, playing games on VR is the prime activity of users. Casual users usually like to watch videos while Premium PC and console VR handlers don’t. According to IDC, expected growth of VR and AR sales will increase 50% annually through 2022.
